IMDB rating: 8.40 Plot: A Neo Nazi skinhead, named Derek Vineyard (Edward Norton) goes to jail for 3 years after committing a murder of 2 black guys. In the meanwhile, his younger brother, Danny Vineyard (Edward Furlong) goes in the same way and makes the same mistakes (racism and hatred) his eldest brother did (this is the result of the Neo Nazi environment he grows up into, and the influence Derek left behind). While Derek is in jail he realize that he choose the wrong path. after coming back from jail, Derek try to convince his brother not to go in his own way. |

why is the movie american history X called like that ?
its for my english homework
because it took place during the years of generation x
bobbymfj | Jan 31, 2010
In the movie, Ed Furlong turns in a paper to his history class that is filled with racist rhetoric. He is sent to the principal’s office, and upon reading his paper, the principle decides to take on the task of challenging Danny’s (Ed Furlong) views. He sort of enrolls him in an unconventional class that he decides to call American History X, and explains to Danny that all of his assignments will be turned in directly to him.
So yeah, American History X is the name of the class, and it’s also the title of the first paper he turns in.

Jack Worthing (Colin Firth) has invented a brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to leave his dull country life behind to visit the ravishing Gwendolyn (Frances O’Connor). Algy Montcrieff (Rupert Everett) decided to take the name ‘Earnest’ when visiting Worthing’s young and beautiful ward, Cecily (Reese Witherspoon) at the country manor. Does this sentence make sense?
Hi,
I am doing AS English Lit (UK) and I am comparing ‘Fingersmith’ by Sarah Waters to ‘The importance of being earnest’ by Oscar Wilde.
I am on my second draft and my teacher told me to write about how two main characters are ‘powerful matriarchs’ - I haven’t used the word ‘matriarchs’ before so I want to check this sentence makes sense!
"Both the characters of Lady Bracknell and Sue are also powerful matriarchs in the novel, as they both play a dominant role within their groups, and this was not expected of women in the Victorian period."
If it doesn’t, how might I go about re-wording it?
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!
it makes sense, u used it correctly…
Nik R | Jan 05, 2010
Get rid of "in the novel"; it’s redundant, and besides, Wilde’s work is a play. I’m not familiar with "Fingersmith," but I suspect it’s a short story (?) And of course women could be powerful in the 19th Century; their sphere was different from men’s, that’s all. Men were powerful in government and business, but social standing was where women were queens. Oh, and what about Old Queen Vic herself, what? After all, Lady Bracknell IS nobility, isn’t she? Social class and standing were very important during that period.
Instead of wasting space on redundancies, set the context in the first sentence:
Both Sue in Sarah Water’s "Fingersmith" and Lady Bracknell in Oscar Wilde’s "The Importance of Being Earnest" offer us images of powerful matriarchs, women in dominant social roles, but in important ways they are radically different from one another.
You have given the reader the following information:
1. Which character belongs in which work;
2. The titles and FULL authors’ names establish the complete context. After this point you may refer to the authors by their last names alone;
3. You have defined what a "matriarch" is for purposes of your discussion;
4. You have established that the purpose of the paper is COMPARISON, without the clumsy and inept "This paper will . . ."
5. You have established an expectation of which character you will discuss first and which you will cover second;
6. You have announced your METHOD. Instead of laboriously comparing each character, one aspect at a time (which involves constant back-and-forth renaming), you have opted for BLOCK STYLE. In that method you discuss all the aspects of your first character. Then do the same with the other character, with her characteristics in the SAME order, comparing as you go. This technique avoids wordy repetition, and lets you use phrases such as "on the other hand," "by contrast," and so forth.
7. You have set up your CONCLUSION, which will reveal the principles of social context, artistic purpose, and technique which will show two different concepts of the term "matriarch."
Whew. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that a good thesis is NOT the place where an A grade is established. The critic Kenneth Burke once defined "rhetoric" as "the arousal and satisfaction of the reader’s expectations," and I have always let that be my guide in constructing a thesis paragraph.

IMDB rating: 6.60 Plot: Sometimes-muddled road movie-turns-sci fi. Hurt plays a man who is traveling the world taking pictures with a special camera that will enable the blind to see (specifically, his blind mother). He meets up with Dommartin on the way, and they predictably hit it off. Set in 1999, a subplot about a nuclear satellite that has fallen to earth and presumably destroyed civilization only adds to the confusion. |

Okii His name is Dillon. I liked him since last year. Like in the first couple of days he lasted in school. But then he got kicked out and he went to Alternative school. But now he came back. When he still wusent kicked out he and his friend were all playing around with me asking me for my number. But I liked him so I just chickened out and hid my face behind a computer. After that I never saw him again until I found out he went to alternative school. Now I get VERY BAD butterflies in my stomach when I see him. He is in 2 of my classes. Looking for Westerns! Both the amusing and the essentials. Any body's top 10?
What are some great westerns that you’d recommend?
I’ve been getting into westerns here lately so I’ve been looking for some on DVD. I like ones like Cat Balou, Paint Your Wagon (singing isn’t exactly something I’m looking for though), and Destry Rides Again, but I want to watch some of the more dramatic ones ( I love Clint Eastwood and I’ve already watched all of the spaghetti westerns).

All my friends (such as they are, gay or not) mock me and tell me I’m crazy, but I think she’s magnificent. =D
I just wish Johnny Cash were still around because I think they could have made a lovely couple singing "Ghost Riders In The Sky".
So am I alone in my gayness and my flaming gay preferences? I’m not really flaming gay, but I am, however, as gay as a French tangelo.
Thank you,

well, can you be more specific? she’s got different talents. Personally, I think her songs are hits because they are all according to one magic recipe [ther'es actually recipes for successful songs : think the BackStreet boys]. But a lot of her talent has to do with her entertainment value which includes her fashion, attitudes[song lyrics], …. everyone’s talking because she’s got the music too!

When she first came out, LOL, get it, came out, I mean came to get attention I looked for reasons not to like her. And I have to say the more I see of her the more I think she is a genius. She is new, over the top, and can hold a tune with the best of them. She is smart, a marketing wizard, and will take Madonna to task. Watching her on Barbara Walters cemented what I suspected, that she has a heart, is the real deal, and is a force to be reckoned with. Then last night on the Grammy Awards her thing with Elton John was good, subtle, gave him his moment and then took it right back with his blessing. How cool is that?

i have to say that when i first heard of lady gaga, i thought she was another weird attention whore. but actually, i found that her music is very exciting, naturally. yes, i am aware that some of her up beat songs’ lyrics dont make sense and they are hard to understand (and outrageous at times), but she is just trying to get a message out and "just dance" ..if you will
I think she’s very talented, but she is pushing the edge of over-exposure. For example, last year, she was supposed to appear in Richmond, Virginia at a venue that held around 1000 people. It was in April. The venue went under, and they rescheduled it for later, at a venue that held 1500. By the time it rolled around in September, they moved it to one that held 5,000. By now she could sell out a large arena easily. That kind of explosion of fame risks fan burnout.
She seems to be managing it well so far.

He would rather masturbate?
When i asked him why he would rather masturbate to porn than have sex with me, he said masturbating takes less effort. He has a very physically demanding job so i try to understand. I just feel like he wishes I was more like them (porn stars), although he watches the homemade porn. I am a bigger girl (190 lbs), but always thought i carried my weight well. He like "bigger" woman and tells me that I turn him on the way I am. he said that the woman he looks at resemble me, but i looked at some of it and I am by no means blonde nor 120 lbs. I told him how I felt and he told me he would never do it again if it hurt me. I’ve thrown away countless porn dvds but he just buys more and hides it. This has been going on for a year now. I am now 5 months pregnant and i just feel depressed and that Im not good enough for him. Am I over-reacting or should I be worried?
X-nay on the porn,..I hate the porn and would not tolerate it at all,…especially when he has a perfectly good working vagina right there,…I tell my bf that if he needs to masturbate then he can use his fukcing imagination,..men are perverts and act like children, therefore they must be treated like children,..like redheaded step children.
don't matter | Feb 02, 2010
If he is not having sex with you often then that may be a problem. But a guy masturbating is normal even when they are married or in a relationship. Porn is only a problem when it is getting in the way of the relationship or his life. The fact that he is buying DVDs is a sign that he may have a problem/ addiction though. There is an internet full of free porn for him to spend money on the porn is not a good thing as it is money that could be spent elsewhere. That type of devotion to porn could be a flag for addictive behavior.
